Short answer: nicotine pouch strength is shown in two ways. mg per pouch is the nicotine in one pouch, and it is the number to compare. mg/g is the nicotine in each gram of pouch material, so it is always higher. A pouch labelled 50MG/G can contain 30mg or 40mg per pouch, depending on how much the pouch weighs.

That is why two cans with the same number on the lid can feel very different. At Pouchline every product title shows both figures, for example PABLO Ice Cold 30MG (50MG/G): mg per pouch first, the can's mg/g figure in brackets. This guide explains how the numbers work, gives a strength chart from light to ultra strong, and shows how the big brands label their cans.

How to convert mg/g to mg per pouch

Multiply the mg/g figure by the weight of one pouch in grams:

mg per pouch = mg/g × pouch weight (g)

Most slim pouches weigh between 0.5g and 0.8g, and mini pouches are lighter. Here are real examples from our range:

Product mg/g on the can Pouch weight mg per pouch
ZYN Black Cherry Mini 15mg/g 0.4g 6mg
77 Fresh Mint 16mg/g 0.65g 10.4mg
PABLO Exclusive 50mg/g 0.6g 30mg
ICEBERG Extreme 50mg/g 0.8g 40mg
MAGGIE Original 60mg/g 0.75g 45mg

PABLO Exclusive and ICEBERG Extreme both say 50MG on the can, yet ICEBERG delivers 10mg more nicotine per pouch because its pouches are heavier. Always compare mg per pouch.

How the big brands label strength

  • VELO: uses dots on the can as a quick strength guide, with more dots meaning stronger. The UK range runs from about 4mg to 17mg per pouch.
  • ZYN: shows mg per pouch on the can. Mini pouches are smaller, so a 6mg ZYN Mini is 15mg/g.
  • KILLA: some cans show mg/g rather than mg per pouch, which is why a KILLA can may look stronger than the pouch inside.
  • PABLO: the 50MG on Exclusive cans is mg/g. Each pouch contains 30mg.
  • ICEBERG: the 20MG, 50MG and 70MG labels are mg/g. ICEBERG Extreme at 50mg/g contains 40mg per pouch.
  • CUBA NINJA 150MG: 150mg/g, a limited edition for highly experienced users only.
  • ICEBERG ENERGY 150MG: 150mg of caffeine per pouch and no nicotine. These are energy pouches, not nicotine pouches.

Choosing a strength

  • New to pouches: start with a light strength, under 5mg per pouch, and only move up if you want more.
  • Moving up: step up one band at a time rather than jumping from 6mg to 30mg.
  • Format matters: mini pouches hold less nicotine than slim pouches of the same mg/g, and they feel more discreet.
  • Flavour can mislead: strong menthol and cooling flavours can feel more intense than the nicotine figure suggests.
  • Ultra strong pouches over 13mg per pouch are for very experienced users only.

You can filter our full range of nicotine pouches by strength, brand and flavour. Nicotine pouches are for adults 18+ only; from 29 October 2026 it is illegal to sell them to under 18s. More in our guide to snus in the UK.

Nicotine strength: FAQs

What does mg/g mean on nicotine pouches?

mg/g is the amount of nicotine in each gram of pouch material. To find the nicotine in one pouch, multiply it by the pouch weight in grams.

Is mg per pouch or mg/g more important?

mg per pouch, because it tells you how much nicotine is in the pouch you actually use. mg/g is always the higher number.

Is 20mg snus strong?

Yes. 20mg per pouch is ultra strong and is for experienced users. If the can says 20mg/g, the pouch itself may contain around 10mg to 16mg.

What strength should a beginner use?

A light strength under 5mg per pouch, such as a 3mg ZYN Mini.

Why does a 50MG can not contain 50mg per pouch?

Because the 50MG is mg/g. A 50mg/g pouch weighing 0.6g contains 30mg of nicotine.

What is the strongest nicotine pouch at Pouchline?

By nicotine per pouch, our strongest include MAGGIE Original at 45mg and ICEBERG Extreme at 40mg. CUBA NINJA 150MG has the highest concentration at 150mg/g.
